Have you ever been inside a Disney movie? Well, after photographing Emily and Joe’s wedding day a couple of weeks ago, I can now say that I have. Emily is a real life, honest to goodness queen (of the Krewe of Babylon), and her opera length kid gloves, fox stole, and sparkly headband were the perfect accessories for her grand ballgown of a wedding dress. Joe filled the role of dashing prince quite handsomely, and these two had a wedding day right out of a fairytale. With a twist! Our heroine met her hero when they were both in the Air Force Academy, and she can rescue herself from her own dragons.
We began the day with bride prep at the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel, where we would later return for the wedding reception. After prep, we were whisked off to the Academy of the Sacred Heart, Emily’s school growing up here in New Orleans, for a dramatic first look. The happy couple exited the ceremony through raised sabers and a shower of bubbles- then it was back to the French Quarter for a night of merriment. After a crazy fun wedding reception, where our newlyweds cut their wedding cake with a saber and got goofy in our photo booth, guests sent Emily and Joe off in style in a second line through the hotel lobby and to the elevators.
Kevin and I have really loved being a part of the Montgomery family this past year as we’ve planned the wedding, and photographed Emily’s engagement and bridal sessions. They are gracious and funny, and Emily and her two sisters are as whip-smart as their parents. I could not have asked for a better wedding day to begin my 2012 year in New Orleans wedding photography. Big thanks to Merideth Reed of Belle-Soiree Weddings and Celeste at the Omni for their expert planning of the day, and to Quinn Landry at Impulse Entertainment for keeping the crowd dancing their booties off all night long.
Photographing New Orleans weddings is an absolute dream job- I get to attend the day when very cool people start their married lives together in the most romantic city on the planet.
